Our people make Hutchison Technologies a great place to work and we’re pleased to shine the spotlight on another member of our talented team. In our latest Meet the Team feature, we meet Technical Sales Account Manager Andy Walker. We asked Andy to tell us a little about his role and what he enjoys most about working at Hutchison Technologies.

Andy is one of one of Hutchison’s most experienced team members. He previously worked for the company for six years, starting out as a Commissioning Engineer and working his way up to Key Account Manager. Due to family commitments, Andy left the business – but continued to work in the AV industry. Three years ago, he came back to Hutchison as a Technical Sales Account Manager.

He said, “This is actually my second ‘tour of duty’ with Hutchison – it’s a great place to work. It’s fast-paced, there are lots of technical challenges to resolve and the people are really great – I’m happy to be back.

“Because of my experience – I’ve been working in the AV industry since I left school at 15-years-old – I’m a sort of Yoda figure for the rest of the team. I also have a lot of technical knowledge – including how that’s applied in the industries we work with most often – leisure and retail. I like to think I’m approachable too!”

Andy works closely with some of Hutchison Technologies’ biggest clients, helping to solve technical challenges and deliver innovative solutions.

He said, “I deal with many of the major projects – including new builds and refurbishments – for one of our key clients. As they’ve expanded internationally, we’ve continued to support them – which is challenging, but incredibly rewarding. A key part of my role is working closely with the client to understand what they want or need, and then collaborating with colleagues to turn that into a properly considered, properly costed technical solution. Recently, that has included a lot of travelling across the UK and Europe.”

In the immediate short-term, Andy is focused on delivering major investment projects for key clients in 2023. He said, “I’m excited to be involved in some of the European projects this year. I don’t always get the chance to see the end outcome, but I think that will happen more often this year. It’s very rewarding when you see a project completed well.”

When asked what Andy would say to anyone considering a career in AV, he said, “It can be a bit intimidating coming into this industry and people might be reluctant or afraid they’ll look a little silly. It’s very complex – there’s AV, lighting, access controls etc., but also construction and understanding why things are installed in the way they are at different stages in a project. It’s a wide net we cast. But – it’s incredibly rewarding and there’s huge opportunity to learn and grow. You can progress in so many ways – and that’s part of what makes it so interesting and special. That, and the satisfaction of seeing a job well done!”

Outside of work, Andy busies himself with family life. A qualified electrical engineer, he also enjoys advancing electrical projects.
