Sophie Smith, Service and Support Representative

Tell us a little about yourself...

I was born in Aberdeen and grew up in a little village called Inverbervie, which is situated along the coast. I left school not knowing what I wanted to do in life and started working in retail before moving to the motor trade. I spent five years in the motor trade, learning about vehicles, how they work, and providing high quality customer service. I really enjoyed the experience and won awards for customer service. I then decided to do something completely different and a little out of my comfort zone and joined Hutchison Technologies, where I’m learning new things every day.

Tell us about the main aspects of your role...

One of my main duties as a Service and Support Representative is to ensure I’m providing the best possible service to our customers. I’m constantly ensuring they are supported, kept updated and that I help them to the best of my ability. Another main duty is to ensure phone calls and emails are answered. Every day is different and I’m constantly learning new things. I really enjoy the problem-solving element of my role – it gives me a great feeling when I’m able to resolve issues.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The best part of my job is the customers; it’s a great feeling when someone gets in touch with a problem that you’re able to resolve. When I’ve provided a great service, I finish the day on a high knowing I’ve helped someone. I also enjoy updating the ‘Positive Quote Of The Day’, which I think gives motivation, encourages positivity and helps to brighten the day.

What makes you stay at Hutchison Technologies?

My team are like my second family. They made me feel so welcome when I first started, and that feeling has remained. We set ambitious team goals and encourage positivity. I always feel you enjoy your job more when you enjoy the people you work with, and that’s true at Hutchison Technologies. I also really enjoy the work/life balance here.

If coronavirus is a teacher, what has it taught you?

It’s taught me how important family and friends are, and that a healthy work/life balance is very essential.
