Gold standard AV for Olympic cycle studio
The VeloStudio is a gold-standard, dual-purpose fitness space furnished with the Wattbike and MyRide® cycling applications based within the Lee Valley VeloPark in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The project
The aftermath of the hugely successful London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games saw a massive resurgence in professional and popular interest in competitive sports. As a London 2012 Legacy venue with a vested interest in keeping the public spirit of the Games alive, Lee Valley VeloPark in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park caters for established and aspiring pro-cyclists and athletes as well as the general fitness public.
We were enlisted to deliver the audio visual specification for the VeloStudio, a dual-purpose space furnished with Wattbike and Matrix Indoor cycles. Wattbike is the only professional indoor training solution endorsed by the UCI World Cycling Centre, and Matrix with its pioneering MyRide® console system enables instructors to deliver a range of sensational video-driven live and virtual workouts. The challenge was to ensure that the audio-visual solution was tailored to the distinct demands of each training zone, but also integrated and flexible enough for operators to simultaneously control.
What we did
The vital forward-motion video component of the cinematic Matrix MyRide® experience was met by a large format projection screen and HD projector, and three separate large format screens were installed for Wattbike’s own no-frills professional video content. Music is supplied in award-winning foreground sound quality by Bose RoomMatch® Utility Small-Format Loudspeakers, and subtle RGB LED lights trim the ceiling rafts to visually distinguish the zones. Synchronisable to the beat of the music, our creative lighting and a feature artwork and LED wall enable instructors to set the tone and intensity of every workout. And our proprietary Control-AV provides instructors with simple and intuitive control of every feature of the audio, visual and lighting via an iPad in each zone.
We knew that creative lighting would be an effective way to differentiate the studio space and unite the overarching audio-visual solution. By demonstrating the concept at the start of the project using 3D video technology, our specialists provided a gold-standard solution to the client’s needs; a practical and integrated audio-visual installation for a space where Olympic cycling dreams are made.
