Matt Evans, Technical Specialist Manager

Our people make Hutchison Technologies a great place to work and we’re pleased to shine the spotlight on another member of our talented team. In our latest Meet the Team feature, we meet Technical Specialist Manager Matt Evans. We asked Matt to tell us a little about his role and what he enjoys most about working at Hutchison Technologies.

Tell us a little about yourself

I moved to London from South Africa in 2005 after finishing a sound engineering degree. There, I worked in PA sound, studio sound and live sound and lighting environments for a few years. Shortly after arriving in the UK, I met Mark Hutchison at a train station, and the rest is “Hutchy" history.

I believe I am what you see. I enjoy technology, fixing systems, programming systems and the challenges around fault-finding a solution.

Tell us about the main aspects of your role

Over the last 16 years, I’ve had a few different roles with the company. My current role allows me to draw on previous experience to manage and support our great service engineers, work on technical system designs and solutions, provide technical support to colleagues, and offer technical systems training to all departments. As technology has advanced, we’re able to program and configure many of our systems remotely, so these days I am mostly desk-based.

What’s the best thing about your job?

I enjoy working with technology and continually learning new things! It’s important to keep up with technology which is great because Hutchison Technologies has a culture of innovation. We’re continually building new teams and developing new skills to support this and I’m happy to be a part of that.

What makes you stay at Hutchison Technologies?

I enjoy working daily with some great and very dedicated people, from the engineers on site to the technical teams in the office. We have shared values and strive to achieve the best at what we do.

If coronavirus is a teacher, what has it taught you?

That a sneeze is SO powerful it can cause world-wide disruption!

From a technology perspective, COVID-19 enabled a massive leap forward; breaking boundaries, unlocking new ways of working, and advancing systems. It’s easy to get comfortable working with technology and equipment in tried and tested ways. However, COVID-19 impacted location, time scales, availability and costs. This meant we had to adapt and think outside-the-box. In doing so, we have innovated and advanced our products and solutions. Our clients also thought differently about their systems, and we implemented new technologies to create new solutions for their environments. All this meant thinking differently, acting differently, adapting, and learning new skills.
