Our people make Hutchison Technologies a great place to work and we’re pleased to shine the spotlight on another member of our talented team. In our latest Meet the Team feature, we meet Internal IT Manager Daniel Blackadder. We asked Daniel to tell us a little about his role and what he enjoys most about working at Hutchison Technologies.
Daniel said, “As Internal IT Manager, I’m responsible for ensuring the IT infrastructure runs smoothly and that all Hutchison Technologies colleagues can do their role without disruption. When IT issues do arise, I love the challenge of identifying and resolving the issue.
“I’m always looking for new ways to improve existing processes, automate and streamline practices, and I enjoy the freedom and flexibility to try that out.”
Daniel was attracted to Hutchison Technologies because of how well the role matched his skill set. He said, “I couldn’t resist the opportunity because my skills were suited to the job requirements. I also liked the fact that the company was looking to the future and planning ahead.
“I’ve worked in different roles with companies of varying sizes over the years and I can easily say that the people at Hutchison Technologies really do make it a vibrant and enjoyable place to be. I think this speaks volumes in recruiting and retaining talent. As the dad of young children, I also appreciate how flexible the company has been – that’s been a huge tick.”
Currently, Daniel is planning for the implementation of the new ERP system, which will help link and align our internal systems and processes, increasing productivity and profitability. He’s also exploring ways of improving the onboarding process from a technology point of view. He said, “The more I can pre-plan and automate the onboarding process, the more consistent it is for new colleagues, which means they can enjoy a great colleague experience from ‘day one’. It also means I can spend more time on any critical IT issues if they should arise.”
In the medium to long-term, Daniel is supporting planning for the migration to Hutchison Technologies new purpose-built headquarters in Luna Place, Dundee. He said, “I’m helping to ensure our IT estate is ready for the new building, including ensuring robust information security protocols are in place to protect our data. Elsewhere, I’m looking to create a new ‘IT Hub’ for colleagues, which includes user-guides and FAQs.”
The IT team aims to support all colleagues with any IT related issues and deliver a ‘first time fix’ on every occasion. Daniel said, “We’re here to help, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch. The IT ticket support system (itsupport@hutchison-t.com) is a great way of logging any issues as it allows the whole team to view, track and resolve issues. We’re also really open to suggestions of how we can improve the IT service, so please get in touch with any feedback.”
Outside of work, Daniel enjoys gaming, Lego building, fitness, and music. He also spends a lot of his time with family. He said, “I enjoy having a nice meal out. I also spend a lot of time watching rugby and have been a Scotland Rugby season pass holder for the past 11-years!”
