Our people make Hutchison’s a great place to work and we’re pleased to shine the spotlight on another member of our talented team.

In our latest Meet the Team feature, we meet Director of Business Development for In Home Displays Ltd, Pauline Swarbrick. We asked Pauline to tell us a little more about her role and what she enjoys most about working at Hutchison’s.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m passionate about people development, sales, exercise and lifelong learning in equal measures. I started my professional career as a linguist, working in tourism. Since then, I’ve worked across a wide variety of industries including, electronics, distribution, construction and now smart energy! I’m a bit of a nomad, having worked with fantastic people across the UK, Europe and Asia and having lived in England, Scotland, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand.

In my spare time, when I’m not exercising, I love tutoring English and Business virtually to students of all ages, all around the world! This not only challenges me but helps me to stay fresh. It’s a humbling and rewarding thing to do.

Tell us about the main aspects of your role.

Fundamentally, this is a sales role – developing new business opportunities in the UK and overseas markets for In Home Displays Ltd, which is a division of the Hutchison Group. The fun part of business development is engaging with customers and understanding how we can help them to achieve their goals with our existing products, or by identifying and developing new product requirements.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The scope. I appreciate having the opportunity to help end-users better understand their energy consumption, which means they can be more energy-efficient and reduce their carbon footprint. I also enjoy working as part of a team, creating products and leaving a positive legacy.

What makes you stay at Hutchison’s?

I’ve only been here for six months – but so far I’ve found it exciting, forward-thinking agile and empowering.  It’s also about the people – the team reflects the business and it is a pleasure working with such a helpful, forward-thinking and positive multi-disciplinary group.

If coronavirus is a teacher, what has it taught you?

Patience, in terms of accepting that some things are outwith outside your control. Resilience, through adaptability. The ability to self-motivate through willpower. And, perhaps most importantly, the value of technology in helping keep family and friends close despite our physical distance from each other.
