The Project

With the best part of a £4m refurb budget earmarked for a new club gym and GroupX, Hutchison-t set about designing and installing a complete pro AV solution for the studios, poolside, and gym. And with Technogym’s cutting-edge Group Cycle™ Connect solution in the studio, and media-ready ARTIS® equipment in the gym, it was down to us to get everything seamlessly connected and online as well.

What We Did

Exceptional audio depends on the space. We specified Bose Freespace® for multidimensional ambience in the holistic studio; Bose Roommatch® for clean and controllable impact in studios designed for high-energy Group Cycle and HIIT; upbeat and punchy background music in the gym; and precision-positioned cabinets by the pool for intelligible sound despite the difficult acoustics.

Behind the scenes, each zone was kitted out with one of our signature AV racks – a highly functional rack complete with meticulously calibrated pro audio equipment. Every rack includes, as standard, a professional CD player with Bluetooth functionality, a mixer equipped with automatic fire alarm mute, and a Digital Signal Processor with integrated limiter to ensure music levels never exceed the club max.

In the brand-new Group Cycle studio, we created a powerful illusion of forward-momentum and space with strategically-positioned overhead digital RGB LED tape. For added visual effect, we illuminated the instructor stage with a dramatic UV batten display, and illuminated the instructor with a double RGBW par can spotlight solution.

Technogym’s ultra-advanced Group Cycle™ Connect concept and performance tracker bikes had been specially selected for the cycle studio, so we had to create a way to deliver great class content while giving the instructor complete control. To do this, we mounted the Technogym instructor control kiosk onto the instructor stage and specified a large format studio screen. From here, the instructor has full access to lighting controls, all audio and visual content, and whatever real-time class performance metrics they want to display on the screen.

With state-of-the-art Technogym ARTIS® equipment specified for the gym, every piece had to be fully online and connected. ARTIS® cardio equipment comes with a built-in UNITY™ console – an android-based touchscreen that gives members access to personalised TV, music, and social media, lets them track and store their workout stats, and link up with trainers and friends.

We designed, supplied, and installed an advanced integrated network solution that enabled digital distribution of RF, Sky, and data services throughout the club – not just for traditional TV and data points, but for all ARTIS® cardio, functional and strength equipment as well (the latter two using a mini version of UNITY™). All users have to do is login for complete media choice and a customised workout experience.

Our sophisticated network infrastructure helps club members stay more connected and engaged at every stage of their workout, and our integrated cycling studio solution gives users one of the most connected and motivational indoor cycling experiences to date.
